Graduate Admissions Specialist

(Temporary)

 

 

This is a temporary employment position for 12 months.

 

Position Description:

Reporting directly to the Director of Admissions and Student Records, the Graduate Admissions Specialist will provide admissions services for the University in the admission of graduate students. The Graduate Admissions Specialist should maintain extensive knowledge of university admission requirements, policies, and procedures in order to interpret those regarding admissions.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and complete processes that move student applicants into the Banner Student Information System.
  • Accurately and timely enter applicant information, as necessary, to the Banner Student Information System, correcting any errors that have occurred
  • Audit applicant records and notify students/potential students of problems, missing documents, etc. regarding their academic records required for completion of the admission process.
  • Effectively communicate with prospective students, parents and community through appointment, telephone, email and other materials.
  • Consult with graduate program directors regarding interview schedules and other requirements for admission to graduate programs.
  • Support confirmation/notification process between the University and Ministry of Education.
  • Provide advice and guidance on procedures for admission as well as the University in general following admission of the applicant.
  • Respond timely and appropriately to internal and external queries concerning progress and status of an application.
  • Support the development of recruitment plans for programs, events, and activities for Graduate students.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the University’s admissions policy, including assessment/selection and entry criteria.
  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of service provision, including the development of office systems and services, ensuring the high quality of service is under constant review.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required.
  • Contribute to the success of graduate recruitment by performing all other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant experience working in a university setting
  • Considerable knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws regarding student admissions.
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply established policies and procedures
  • Strong commitment to customer service and appropriate problem-resolution techniques.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage tasks and workloads.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Ability to make workflow decisions and to manage complex workload to meet established deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Substantial experience with technology-based student information systems and several years' experience in a student services area would be an advantage.
